Description

Martyn opens by stating that 'the peak in Derbyshire, having hitherto been described in scarce any other light, than as a place composed of wonders; I was not a little desirous to make some enquiry into the nature of a place generally esteemed one of the most surprizing of our own country.' He presents his observations on the peak.
