Paper, 'Animadversiones in novam theoriam motus a viris Dno Christophoro Wren et Dno Christiano Hugenio' ['Amendments to the new theory of motion of Christopher Wren and Christian Huygens'] by Francis Willughby
Reference number: CLP/3i/54
Date: 1669
Description
Willughby presents six cases of collisions in which, if Sir Christopher Wren's hypothesis of motion were true, the quantity of motion (product of mass and speed) would not be conserved. This was read anonymously at the Royal Society, where it was commented on by Wren, as well as by William Brouncker. Oldenburg wrote to Willughby, thanking him for his ingenious observation, and that if he had any experiments disproving the theory, the Royal Society would like to know.
Includes equations in text.
Subject: Mechanics
