Consists of a letter from Cope to Alexander Stuart concerning the dating of a chimney piece; a paper by Cope entitled 'Some considerations on the antiquity and use of the Indian charactersor figures'; an extract of a letter from Cope to Stuart concerning the dating of a chimney piece from Widgel Hall in Hertfordshire with date in Roman numerals and 'Indian characters'; and two figures (one engraved and one original) with information about the chimney. The 'Indian characters' mentioned by Cope are likely Eastern Arabic numerals.
