Houston describes numerous experiments performed primarily on dogs at Leyden [Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands] on the effects of perforation of the thorax on respiration. This is an English translation of the most of the original Latin paper, with some sections still written in Latin. Communicated and published posthumously.
