Description

Amyand describes an 11-year-old boy who was admitted to St George's Hospital [London] for an operation to treat a scrotal hernia and a fistula between the scrotum and thigh. Amyand describes the operation in detail, and the boy was found to have a stone-encrusted pin in his gut in addition to the hernia. Amyand also provides four sets of observations of other patients with scrotal ruptures and abdominal punctures. Second copy of manuscript found at CLP/12ii/70.

Published in Philosophical Transactions as 'Of an inguinal rupture, with a pin in the appendix coeci, incrusted with stone; and some observations on wounds in the guts'.

Read to the Royal Society on 11 December 1735.
