Description
This paper is extracted from papers given to Gray by William Arrot, a Scottish surgeon, who had gathered the plant at the place where it grows in Peru. The paper describes the appearance and growth of the tree from which the Jesuit's bark is cut, as well as different varieties of Jesuit's bark, including Cascarilla colorada, amarylla, crespilla, and blanca. Gray describes the harvesting process and uses for the bark, including reducing fevers.
