Description

The experiments were proposed by Professor [John] Perry, and with his sanction and encouragement extended to more than two years’ continuous work. The work had for its original object the determination of the explosive properties of compressed mixtures of coal-gas and air. The main apparatus was designed by McDiarmid and Mann, students of the Royal College of Science, South Kensington [London], and was made before the authors of this paper became connected with the work.

Annotations in ink throughout.
