Russell describes experimental procedures undertaken in attempts to arrive at definite conclusions with regard to the origin and destination of some of the afferent and efferent tracts which exist in the medulla oblongata.

Annotations in ink throughout. Includes 19 photographs and one illustration.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 61 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'The origin and destination of certain afferent and efferent tracts in the medulla oblongata'.

An abstract of this paper was published by Russell in the British Medical Journal [later The BMJ]: Russell; James Samuel Risien Russell.
