Description

The authors present a description of Surtshellir, a lava cave in Iceland, including descriptions of stalactites and stalagmites, ice crystals on the walls and roof of the cave and the conditions and mode of formation of the crystals. They also write about hoarfrost examined at Christmas 1892, artificial hoarfrost, comparisons with cubic skeleton crystals and existing literature and research into hollow pyramidal ice crystals.

Includes 27 pages of photographs and diagrams of ice crystals and stalagtites.
