Description

Gordon presents a method for determining Verdet's constant in absolute measure. A note reads 'The whole of this work has been done under Prof [James] Clerk Maxwell's superintendance, he suggested the method and nearly all the details, and any merit which the investigation may have, belongs to him. He is however in no way responsible for any errors there may be in the numerical results.'

Annotations in pencil throughout. Marked on front as 'Archives - superseded by a new version'. Includes four diagrams in the text relating to Gordon's experimental setup.
