Description

Russell aims to find a simple method of evaluating integrals. He expresses the values of irrational algebraic quantities by means of linear differential equations with rational coefficients, and expresses their integrals by means of converging series. He then considers how to ascertain under what circumstances linear differential equations of the second order are satisfied by irrational functions.

Marked on front as 'Archives May 27'. Includes four geometrical figures in the text.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 23 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the integration of algebraical functions, with illustrations in mechanics'.
