Description

Lacaze-Duthiers writes on purple dyes used by 'the ancients', aiming to identify the 'producing organs' of this dye, their nature, and 'the natural primitive colour of the dye'. He examines several species of molluscs which he believes produce the dye.

Includes one page of figures and two photographs executed in purple dye - Purpura Lapillus, on silk fabric
