Description

Geuther and Cartmell describe a series of experiments in which common aldehyde, acrolein, and oil of bitter almonds are subjected to the action of hydrochloric, hydriodic, and sulphurous acids.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 10 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the behaviour of the aldehydes with acids'.
