Unpublished paper, 'On the embryogeny of Comatula rosacea (Linck)' by [Charles Thomas] Wyville Thomson
Reference number: AP/41/9
Date: 01 November 1858
Description
Thomson details his observations on the development and subsequent changes of the larva of Comatula rosacea. After complete segmentation of the 'yelk', a more consistent nucleus appears within the mulberry mass still contained within the vitelline membrane. The external more transparent flocculant portion of the 'yelk' liquefies and is absorbed into this nucleus, which gradually assumes the form of the embryo larva, a granular cylinder contracted at either end and girded with four transverse bands of cilia.
Includes one illustration of the Comatula rosacea larva. Marked on front as 'Archives'.
Subject: Zoology / Entomology / Embryology
Received 9 December 1858. Communicated by [William Benjamin] Carpenter.
Written by Thomson in Belfast.
Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 12 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the embryogeny of Comatula rosacea (Linck)'.
