Description

Forrester describes a disease affecting vines in Portugal, sharing the proposed causes and origins of the disease. He describes the regions affected and shares his own observations of vines uprooted in April 1854. He goes on to suggest remedies for the eradication of the 'vine-malady'.

Annotations in pencil throughout. Includes five pages of figures and a map of the wine district of the Alto-Douro.

This paper was published in full in volume 7 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the vine-disease in the port-wine districts of the Alto-Douro, in April 1854. With a supplementary note on the proposed remedies for its eradication'.
