Ashby describes experiments on 'the metallic (and a few other) oxides', made with a view to ascertain their powers to produce and maintain, catalytically, the combustion of various gases and vapours, and to annex such considerations as appear to be suggested by the facts.

Includes two diagrams within the text. Annotations in pencil throughout.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 7 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the metallic and some other oxides, in relation to catalytic phenomena'.
