Ville writes on topics including the quantity of ammonia contained in the air, the absorption of the azote of the air by plants and the influence on vegetation of ammonia added to the air, and shares observations made in four hot houses on the influence of ammonical fumigations.

Written in French with an English translation. Includes 12 figures in the text of experimental apparatus.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 6 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Experimental researches on vegetation'.
