Brinton writes on the 'movements of the stomach', mentioning the anatomy of its muscular coat. The muscular actions of the digesting stomach are then considered.

Annotations in pencil throughout. Followed by three plates of experimental and anatomical representations of the alimentary canal [gastrointestinal tract].

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 6 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Contributions to the physiology of the alimentary canal'.
