Description

This is an abridgement of an earlier paper of the same title by Hutchinson (see AP/29/8). Hutchinson aims to demonstrate by models and dissections the action of the intercostal muscles.

Annotations in pencil and ink throughout. Followed by four pages of figures.

Received 25 May 1848. Communicated by Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 5 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Researches on the function of the intercostal muscles, and on the respiratory movements, with some remarks upon muscular power in man'.
