Weld explains how Charles the Second presented the mace to the Society in August 1664, and shares the history of the mace.

Marked on back as 'To be printed in full in the Proceedings 7 May 1846 S H C [Samuel Hunter Christie]'.

The paper was published in volume 5 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'History of the mace given to the Royal Society by King Charles the Second'.
