Paper, 'On the automatic registration of magnetometers and other meteorological instruments, by photography' by Charles Brooke
Reference number: AP/28/2
Date: July 1846
Description
Brooke shares details regarding the construction of the magnetometer, the preparation of the highly sensitive photographic paper employed in the process of registering magnetic variations, and the minute adjustments necessary for ensuring accuracy in registering the results.
Marked on back as 'To be printed 28 Jan 1847 S H C [Samuel Hunter Christie]'. Followed by an appendix in which Brooke describes his methods for obtaining a similar automatic registration of the heights of the barometer and thermometer, by suitable additions to the same apparatus which registers the magnetic variations. The appendix also includes descriptions of plates to accompany the paper.
Subject: Physics / Magnetism / Meteorology
Received 26 November 1846. Communicated by G B [George Biddell] Airy.
Written by Brooke at 29 Keppel Street [London].
The paper was published in volume 137 of Philosophical Transactions as 'On the automatic registration of magnetometers, and other meteorological instruments, by photography'.
An abstract of the paper was published in volume 5 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On the automatic registration of magnetometers and other meteorological instruments, by photography'.
