Description

Tyrrell builds upon the work of [William] Kirby, [William] Spence and [Peter Mark] Roget regarding the circulation of the blood in insects, noting that this existing research is concerned chiefly with insects in the larva state. Tyrrell shares observations on the 'perfect' insect. Includes two full-colour figures of insect wings, annotated 'Drawings accompanying Mr John Tyrrell's paper in Insect Circulation June 1834'. Marked as 'not to be printed' by Roget. Followed by a letter written by Tyrrell on 18 December 1834 correcting a point in his original paper.

Subject: Entomology

Received 17 December 1834. Read 15 January 1835. Communicated by Roget.

Written by Tyrrell at Exeter [England].

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 3 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On the circulation of the blood in insects'.
