Description

Hutchison reports on his inquiry into the frequency of urinary calculi amongst seamen in England, Scotland, and Ireland, having noticed an infrequency of the affliction amongst naval officers. He provides statistics on the number of instances of urinary calculi in various locations around Scotland.

An ink inscription final page verso reads 'Not to be printed'. Corrections and deletions appear throughout in ink and graphite.

Read to the Royal Society on 11 February 1830.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to published this paper, it was published in Medico-Chirurgical Transactions in 1831: Hutchison, Alexander Copland. 'A Further Inquiry into the Comparative Infrequency of Calculous Diseases among Sea-Faring People, with some Observations on their Frequency in Scotland'. Medico-Chirurgical Transactions, vol 16, issue 1, pp. 94-127.
