Description

Manuscript copy of Gilbert's address to the Royal Society as President, in which he comments on the work produced by Fellows during the year, remembers Fellows who died, and commends certain Fellows with medals. Humphry Davy, William Hyde Wollaston, and Thomas Young were discussed for their recent contributions to science. Charles Bell and Eilhard Mitscherlich each received medals. Edward Ash, Francis Hamilton Buchanan, John Foster, Christopher Hawkins, Robert Nares, James Smithson, George Frederic Tavel, Louis Nicholas Vauquelin, and William Wavell all died in late 1828 or in 1829 and were remembered in Gilbert's address.
