Description
Henwood describes experiments on magnetic attraction caused by chemical combinations, including the combination of quicklime [calcium oxide] and water, quicklime and sulphuric acid, and sulphuric acid and carbonate of soda and sodium chloride. Henwood also experiments with magnetic needles made from various metals.
An ink inscription top right of first page reads 'Comm'd Nov 16' and next to this, struck out, '(not to be read)'. Annotations appear throughout in graphite.
Subject: Chemistry / Physics
Written by Henwood in Perran near Truro [Cornwall, England]. Communicated by D [Davies] Gilbert [although this line has been struck out]. Read to the Royal Society on 22 February 1827 and ordered not to be printed on 22 March 1827.
