Description

Pond explains the process for determining the direction of the meridian using instruments of small dimensions. He proposes that his method could also be used for astronomical purposes such as determining the positions of circumpolar stars.

A red ink inscription at top of first page reads '(48) (JFWH) [John Frederick William Herschel]'. Minor corrections and deletions appear in ink.
