Original was dated 19 February 1737 and was in French Concerning experiments at Tornea and Pello in Lapland (on the Swedish-Finnish border) in determining the figure of the earth; encloses a letter from Alexis Clairaut with his paper on the figure of the earth, and proposes him as a candidate for election to the Fellowship; informing the Royal Society that M de Isle intends to take measurements of the gulf of Finland in determining the figure of the earth.

Celsius states that he sends his comments on Cassini's deduction of the figure of the earth, and that he has found some English coins with runic inscriptions, asking if there was a King of England called Othin. The original letter, which now no longer exists, was in French and dated 14 March 1738
